Strong Foundations

Growing up, I learnt that breakfast was supposed to be cereal, Vegemite on toast, or perhaps rolled oats with brown sugar in the winter, and that’s just how it was. I never thought about what I was actually putting into my body on a mechanical level - hello high carbohydrate meals! - and how that could affect how my body functions. How was I to know I was creating a blood sugar spike first thing in the morning, that would set me up for a series of highs and lows throughout the day? So when I started diving into the nutrition space, and understanding what macro- and micronutrients our bodies need each day, it was essentially like I had to re-learn how to eat!

I know that sounds a bit extreme, but it’s honestly true. I had to alter my understanding of the value food to my body, and what foods and food combinations serve me best.

This is the concept I continually come back to when putting together treatment plans for my clients. Do they have the foundational understanding of their body and how food impacts them, to be able to move forward? Or do we need to build the foundation up before we dive in deeper?

No supplement or specific diet is going to make a long lasting difference to your overall health, if you keep building on top of a poor nutritional foundation. Eventually cracks will appear and your body will let you know one way or another that it needs help! So, let’s start there.

Get your foundation strong, and your body will thank you for it.
