Strawberry Chia Jam

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to traditional jam for your little (or yourself!), look no further. Here I’ve used strawberries, but this simple, ten minute recipe can be made with what ever berries you have on hand, even frozen!

Give this one a go, and add it to porridge/yogurt/toast or just on its own as a sweet treat for your little one.

To turn this from stewed fruit into ‘jam’ we’re using chia seeds. These gorgeous little things are a fantastic source of fibre, and take on a jelly-like consistency when left to soak in water or juice. This makes them great sensory play for toddlers as well, but just know, they stick. to. EVERYTHING.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped strawberries

  • 2 Tbs chia seeds

  • Squeeze of lemon (optional) - I’d recommend leaving this out if your fruit is already quite tart, like raspberries

  • 1 Tbs maple syrup (optional)

Method

  • Add the chopped strawberries to a small saucepan on medium heat.

  • Once the strawberries start to break down and bubble away, mash them up using a fork or potato masher.

  • When you’re happy with the consistency, take off the heat and stir through the chia seeds.

  • If you’re also added lemon or maple syrup, add these in now.

  • Leave for 5-10 minute and give it another good stir through.

  • Once cool, pop it into a jar or container and keep it in the fridge for up to a week.
